Free photographs for your site

Over the past decade I have relied on several online sources for free photograph images. In the beginning I was a little paranoid about selecting images and using them online incase I caused an infringement on some copyright law. As a result I searched high and low for image providers that only provided images free and without any copyright restrictions. As the years progressed, more and more photographers began to provide free images witout restriction. The list below will hopefully help a few of you out there and save you some cash.

It should be noted that some of the image providers listed below provide far better quality images that many of the paid image services out there. My advice would be - don't dismiss free images as inferior in comparison to paid services. Take a look . . . you'll be surprised.

Unsplash

Unsplash have been around for a couple of years and is by far my go to site for free images.
The selection is phenominal and is constantly expanding. The site owners only provide clear high res images that can be downloaded without signing up for any kind of account. The quality is high and each image is categorised and assessed before being allowed access to the site. As a result, you are not wasting your time searching through second rate photos, in fact it's quite the opposite. The selection is so large with so many professional looking images that you will find yourself spoilt for choice.

Smaller in size but again, constantly growing, Pic Jumbo have a slightly different style of image but one that may suit many out there who are looking for that shot with a different perspective.

Gratisography

Ok now for something a little strange . . . bit good. Gratisography is a site I use regularly. If you need an attention grabbing image for a campaign then look no further. Some images are abstract, some silly and some just down right confusing but they all work at some level.

Pexels.com

Pexels provides a good selection of images if you can't find what you want in the others.
Again, high res quality and of a good standard. I would recommend taking a very good look at the selection here.
There are really nice images here and some good graphics too.

Pixabay.com

Pixabay provides a large selection of images. It provides relatively good standard though sometimes it may feel like a traditional image stock library so additional wading through images is required. Often I find some hidden gems in here so all in all I would still recommend taking a very good look at the selection here.
